The enchanted island of Ven

Situated in the Öresund between Sweden and Denmark, the Island of Ven is easily accessible with your yacht (there are 3 ports in total). I have to admit, before heading to the island, I had to look up whether it belonged to Sweden or Denmark. It has indeed been under the danish crown for several decades, and is especially famous for the danish asronomer Tycho Brahe, but the tiny island  belongs nowadays to the Landskrona Municipality, Sweden.

Beginning of April, the island was basically empty. A ferry entered the port to unload and load a few cars, but beside that I didn’t meet a single soul in the streets. Very few people actually live on this island, but it tends to become a very popular destination with the arrival of summer‘s warmth. Now at this time of the year, visitors from the inland are rather the exception.

I used my spare time to stroll a bit around in order to get a feeling for this place. As there are basically no cars, walking or renting a bike are probably the best options to find your way around. Although I only spent few hours on the island, it did not take too long to figure out why this island can become a very popular destination during the summer months. The combination of the gras covered slopes, the sleepy streets and the chill wind breezing in from the sea makes the  island a unique place to stay. If I could, I would have stayed longer. But the next time when I am in the region, I‘ll definitely give it a second visit and I’ll rent one of those tandems with my partner in crime.
